Suaza will step out next at Matamata on Friday in the Rating 75 2000m event with Vinny Colgan up.
The big mare blotted her copy book in the Dunstan Championship Final at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day; she simply didn’t handle the testing track that day.
Her form stacks up well when you consider the start before that she got to within a long head of Single Minded over 2400m at Te Rapa. The latter went on, of course, to claim the City of Auckland Cup-Gr.2.
We still have ambitions to get Suaza to the Auckland Cup; the big problem is winning some Rating points. Right now she is at 70 which puts her a long way down the list for entry into the Group One race on the 7th of March.
So Friday is about a soft option to win some points. If she happened to win well, there are numerous options going forward and one I’d be keen to discuss with trainer John Sargent is the Listed Dunedin Gold Cup (2400m) on the 4th of February.
Suaza is one of a number of horses I manage on behalf of Nearco Stud Ltd. I negotiated her purchase last year as a tried horse.
