Tip the Wink will be racing in foal when she steps out in the Open 1200 metres Handicap event at Awapuni on Saturday in the hands of Rosie Myers.
It’s been a busy few months for the dual Listed Race-winning daughter of Stravinsky. This season she raced in New Zealand; raced in Sydney; was successfully mated with High Chaparral in the Hunter Valley; has been in work in Cessnock (Hunter region, not far from Newcastle); travelled home to New Zealand; had a few days on the Aqua Walker at Kendayla Park (Cambridge) before returning to her stable at Mike Breslin’s Awapuni base.
Despite all that, Tip the Wink has taken it all in her stride. She got in foal first service to High Chaparral. She enjoyed her work at Kris Lee’s Cessnock stable & we had some pleasing reports on her gallops. Since being back home, Mike Breslin has told me that she seems very happy & is pleased with her work.
How she’ll go fresh-up on Saturday is anyone’s guess; but it’s rare for this girl to turn in a poor effort. If she does run well, she holds a nomination for both the Railway Handicap and Telegraph Handicap – races she competed in earlier this year with real merit.
The main priority is her safety. As a dual black type winner and Group One-placed and in foal to High Chaparral, she’s a valuable mare with a long and exciting stud future ahead of her.
