Dam of Planet Rock foals

Akris, the dam of this season’s New Zealand One Thousand Guineas-Gr.1 winner Planet Rock, has produced a colt by Alamosa at Wellfield Lodge near Palmerston North.

I visited Wellfield last Friday morning and was lucky enough to see the colt which, at the time, was only a few hours old.

Akris (Zabeel ex Steluta, by Defensive Play) has made a fantastic start to her stud career with Planet Rock being her first foal.  Her second is a 2YO brother to Planet Rock who sold at Karaka earlier this year and is now in the stable of Mike Breslin.  Foal number three is a yearling by Alamosa which sells at Karaka 2012.

I inspected the yearling Alamosa ex Akris colt while at Wellfield and he’s going to be an excellent advertisement for his freshman sire.  The colt is Lot 37 for Karaka 2012.

A mating for Akris is undecided.  There is a chance she will be left empty this year with a view to a nice early mating next season.
