Lot 52, the Pins ex Birdinhand colt
I had an enjoyable morning today photographing Bradbury Park’s 16-strong consignment for the upcoming New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale.
While I’ve done a mountain of television field work, photography is a bit of a sideline for me, though I’ve been doing it for decades (hell I sound old!). Soon after leaving high school I was lucky enough to learn photography from the late Ken Lush who, in those days, was the owner-operator of the Palmerston North-based ‘Photopress’. More recently that company is known as ‘Race Images’.
Anyway, I’ll be eternally-grateful to Ken. He was patient with me; taught me the subtleties of racing photography and those early lessons have stood to me till today, not to mention how helpful it was to have that background knowledge when I starting out presenting & producing ‘The Ford Report’ for Trackside Television.
Anyway, back to today’s effort. Casey Dando and his Bradbury Park team were up and at it early and the horses were ready to roll when I arrived at their Matamata property at 8.30am.
I saw some lovely athletes and I’ll be interested to check their individual breeze-ups when I get time in the coming days.
The Pins colt from Birdinhand is a standout physically, though I really liked the Bernardini colt from Supermodel and the Perfectly Ready colt from Ascona.
If you’re in the market for a Ready to Run horse, do consider the Bradbury Park offering; you’ll find all the photos and the breeze-up videos online at www.nzb.co.nz.
There could well be a would-be investors reading this blog right now. If that’s you and you’re thinking about the Ready to Run Sale, it is a sale I can confidently recommend. I purchased (in conjunction with Mike Breslin) for a client San Rafael out of this sale last year. He’s unbeaten in two starts to date and looks a genuine hope in the Group One Levin Classic next month. If you want to find out more, drop me an email at adrian.clark@xtra.co.nz and we can get the ball rolling.
