Like riding a bike

As part of my overall work mix I’ve returned to making TV commercials for the thoroughbred industry.

During my 15 years with Trackside Television presenting and producing ‘The Ford Report’ I made hundreds of hours of thoroughbred industry-related TV.  During those years I made dozens of commercials as well.

The demand for this type of work is there and I’ve been very pleased in recent weeks to make commercials for Bluegables Farm (Shamoline Warrior), Brighthill Farm (Eagle Mountain, Patapan & Perfectly Ready), Cambridge Stud (Stravinsky & Tavistock) and Wellfield Lodge (Alamosa, Handsome Ransom & Road to Rock).

I’m making the commercials in conjunction with Montrose Digital, which is owned by Tony Van Deursen who employs the highly-talented Darren Manden as his editor.

Montrose Digital has fantastic camera equipment and a first-class edit suite.  Like me, Montrose is based in the Waikato, which makes the task of turning around TV commercials so much more convenient.  Yesterday we turned around the first-cut of a 30 second commercial for Stravinsky in a matter of hours – I’m talking from scripting to filming to voice over to edit.  Not many TV production companies can match that.

Anyway, I’m enjoying the TV work as part of the daily work routine.  My bloodstock consultancy business will always come first, but it makes for wonderful variety and you can’t beat filming quality horses in lovely surroundings as was the case yesterday.
