Nice to have a Volksraad mare in the mix

Volksraad has won 8 New Zealand Stallion Premierships and is now showing the signs of becoming an excellent broodmare sire.

Lights of Heaven, Peter Moody’s star Zabeel race mare, is from a Volksraad mare.  So too is Beauty Flash, the impressive Golan horse who has won four Group One (3 x domestic, 1 x international) races in Hong Kong.

I’ve had Volksraad flagged, in my own mind, for quite some time as an emerging force as a broodmare sire.  For a while I wasn’t convinced; but I’m now quite sure he’s on track for a significant role as a broodmare sire.

I’ve purchased, for clients, two mares by Volksraad this year.  One is Sentura, who is currently in foal to O’Reilly and booked to newcomer horse Shocking this year.

Sentura has a great pedigree.  Her brother, Clifton Prince, won 11 races including four at black type level.  Her three-quarter brother, Clifton King, won 17 races including two Group One victories in South Africa.
