Nearco weanling tops Day One at Karaka

Nearco Stud's Tavistock colt from Sentura which topped day one of selling at Karaka today. Mark & Shelley Treweek were the buyers at $170,000

Nearco Stud takes great pride in offering today’s leading seller on the opening day of New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Weanling Sale.

Superbly-raised and prepared by Gordon Cunningham and his team at Curraghmore Stud, the colt is from the Volksraad mare Sentura.

Mark & Shelley Treweek have a great eye for a young horse and Greg Tomlinson (owner of Nearco Stud) and I are delighted that their bid of $170,000 secured the colt.  We know he will be given every opportunity going forward and we wish them well.

The dam, Sentura (Volksraad) is a mare I purchased privately for Nearco Stud from Trevor Luke and Peter McKay.  She was carrying an O’Reilly at the time and it was Mark & Shelley Treweek who purchased him from us (via Curraghmore Stud) at the 2012 National Weanling Sale for $125,000.

Sentura is currently in foal to Ocean Park.

Nearco Stud will present further weanlings tomorrow including Lot 232, a quality colt by Tavistock from the stakes-winning mare Lamington Vegas (Elusive City).  The dam is a sister to Fascination Street who is set to contest Saturday’s Listed Rotorua Stakes, a race she won 12 months ago.
