It’s appropriate that I write about Veil (Faltaat ex Sweet ‘n’ Vain) on the very first day of the new racing season.
For a start, I owe much to this mare. She was the very first horse to carry our silver and cardinal colours to victory on the racetrack. That was at Arawa Park (Rotorua) on the 14th of October 2006. She backed up to win again at Te Awamutu three weeks later. Not only did it mean dual racetrack success for Sherryl and I, it gave me the confidence to purchase another race mare – Sarajay – and she changed our lives forever (you can read about Sarajay elsewhere on my website).
Anyway, Veil is booked to Perfectly Ready this season and it’s a good day to be talking about him given that he’s just been crowned New Zealand’s Champion First Season Sire. Congratulations to Nick and Anne-Marie King, plus all their team at Brighthill Farm.
Right now Veil is at Brighthill Farm. She carries an early service to Swiss Ace, the Oakleigh Plate winner who started his stud career at Westbury Stud last year.
